1908 - 2010

Burkhart's is Oklahoma's oldest office products company and one of the oldest in the country. Here's a timeline to show how we got here!

1904
Burkhart's began in 1904 as the Tulsa OK Press, the former printing department of the Tulsa Daily World. It was located in an alley on Third Street between Main and Boulder.

1906
In 1906, Mr. Robert Francis Schofield along with his wife and children arrived in Tulsa from Edina, Missouri after selling his newspaper business, The Edina Sentinel. He then purchased the Tulsa OK Press and moved it to 119 East 2nd Street. The business was renamed the Schofield Printing Company. The Tulsa OK Press was the publisher and printer of the first city directory when it came out in 1907.

1908
In 1908, Mr. Schofield sold the Schofield Printing Company along with the Tulsa City Directory to Mr. Richard Willis Burkhart. The business was renamed and became known as Burkhart Printing and Stationery. The publisher of the city directory became known as Burkhart's Tulsa and West Tulsa Directory. About this time the oil business was beginning to take hold and Mr. Burkhart began printing a standardized line of oil and gas legal forms. Additional lines of standardized legal forms for the real estate and other industries came later.

1909
In 1909, The Tulsa City Directory was acquired by the Hollman Company. It was eventually acquired by the R. L. Polk Company.

1911
In 1911, Mr. Burkhart purchased the Tulsa Typewriter Exchange located at 110 East 2nd Street.

1914
In 1914, the typewriter business moved to the location of Burkhart Printing and Stationery and eventually discontinued the name of Tulsa Typewriter Exchange.

1917
In 1917, Burkhart Printing and Stationery moved into a new two-story building. The “Burkhart's Building” is located at 115 South Cincinnati. The printing and stationery business was located on the first floor and apartments were located on the second floor.

1938
In 1938, due to blindness, Mr. Burkhart turned the management of the business over to his daughter Ruth Burkhart who eventually married Mr. Art Obermire.

1962
In 1962, Mr. & Mrs. Obermire started a second business as Burkhart's Marine Supply. They opened it in conjunction with the printing and stationery business at the same location of 115 south Cincinnati.

1965
In 1965, Burkhart Printing and Stationery discontinued the stationery and printing operation and became known as Burkhart's Legal Forms.

1967
On March 1, 1967, Mr. & Mrs. Obermier sold the Burkhart's Legal Forms to Mr. & Mrs. Leslie L. Robinett. They moved the business to 1346 East 11th Street. The Obermiers retained the Burkhart Marine Supply business and eventually moved to North Utica. Mr. & Mrs. Obermier retired in 1975 and closed the marine supply business.

1968
In 1968, Tom Robinett son of Mr. & Mrs. Leslie Robinett joined the business as president. i.

1969
In 1969, Burkhart's Legal Forms moved to 2648 East 11th Street. The name changed to Burkhart's Office Supply.

1970
In 1970, the business expanded by opening a store at 4317 South Sheridan.

1983
In 1983, the business expanded again by opening a store at 317 South Main, the former location of Clark Clothing Store.

1985
In 1985, a fourth store was opened at 2323 East 71st Street..

1987
In 1987 Scott Robinett, son of Tom & Hazel Robinett joined the business. .

1988
In 1988, the store on south Main was moved to its present location in the Pythian Building at 25 West 5th Street.

2000
In 2000, Scott Robinett became President while Tom Robinett became Chief Executive Officer.
